Some Other Trumpets

Idrees Sulieman
I hadn't noticed it while I planned this week's Duplex Mystery Jazz Hour, but as I ran the show it became clearer and clearer that many of the trumpet players whose music I was claiming was under-rated were ex-patriots. More on this in a future post.

Here's the program.

Joe Newman “"Tarter Pie” from Locking Horns (Fresh Sounds 1957)

Sean Jones “Blues for Matt B” from Swingin' (Mack Avenue 2006)

Idrees Sulieman “If I only Knew” from Groovin' (Steeplechase 1989)

Oscar Brashear “Old Man Jazz” from Swingin' (Mack Avenue 2006)

Benny Bailey “Peruvian Nights” from For Heaven's Sake (Hot House 1989)

Claudio Roditi “Rio” from On the Run (Cexton 1993)

Jon Eardley “Hey There” from From Hollywood to NY (Blue Note 1955)

Louis Smith “Fats” from Prancin' (Steeplechase 1979)

Duplex Mystery Jazz Hour, Thursday 6 PM, WZBC 90.3, streaming on WZBC.ORG
